Captain Smartypants

A Seattle Men's Chorus Ensemble

Captain Smartypants was discovered by Madame Curie in 1913 as she was emptying a test tube. The radioactive slime mold developed in the Paris sewers until it gained consciousness and crossed the Atlantic. Upon landing in America, this new life form sprouted legs and strode across the continent, singing Partridge Family songs all the while. They settled in Seattle where they became quickly known as ‘Those Nine Homosexuals Who Won’t Stop Singing.’

In 2004, Captain Smartypants toured the Puget sound region performing the show based on their astonishing CD titled UnderCover, which was called ‘… the best CD ever made in the history of music’ by Hyperbole Magazine. Their shows ‘Trousers of Terror,’ and ‘PowerPants!’ played to packed houses in Seattle and beyond. Look for their new show ‘Cirque du Slaque’ in spring of 2008.

Captain Smartypants has performed with Ann Wilson, Melissa Manchester, Megan Mullally, Kristin Chenoweth and Lea Delaria, and was Seattle’s warm-up act for Margaret Cho when she filmed “The Notorious C.H.O.” in 2002. They all live together in a treehouse in Yelm, where they weave all their own clothing out of wild vines. Their favorite color is ‘plaid’ and they eat nothing but circus peanuts and fiddlehead ferns. Eric Lane Barnes, Assistant Artistic Director of Seattle Men’s Chorus, is their trepid leader.
