Okay… first, let me grovel. Seattle Men’s Chorus didn’t perform their signature
sign-language “Silent Night” in last year’s Holiday Concert. The Heavens opened up with snowstorms,
ticket sales plummeted and many of you let me know how you felt about the omission. Luckily, the stock market had plunged
a few months earlier and I couldn’t be blamed for THAT.
It’s back… and I’m glad.
Tradition is central to our lives. Year after year you tell me that it isn’t Christmas until you
attend one of our concerts. Just the idea of making an evening of dinner with your friends and attending either or both
SMC or SWC’s holiday concerts is enough to banish the hum-bugs.
Both the Men’s Chorus and the Women’s Chorus concerts are carefully programmed this year to
provide an evening (or matinee) of entertainment and exquisite choral singing. It’s been a hard year for all of us.
But we can hold fast to those traditions that cause us to reconnect with each other through beautiful music.
Seattle Men’s Chorus opens their Holiday run at Benaroya Hall on Saturday and Sunday, November 28
and 29 with Broadway legend Betty Buckley as special guest. Ms. Buckley is beloved for her Tony Award-winning role of
Grizabella in the 1982 premiere of CATS on Broadway. Her rendition of “Memory” established her as one of the
great Broadway Divas. She is also known for her role as Abby, the stepmother in Eight is Enough on television from 1977-1981.
SMC’s opening of Santa Baby is a full week earlier than in past years. Join us to kick off the
Holiday Season on Thanksgiving weekend. The city is ablaze with lights and the Chorus will sweep you into the
Holiday Spirit.
Seattle Women’s Chorus now boasts 280 members and is ready to welcome you to Meany Hall on
December 19 and 20. The enthusiasm over this group of women continues to expand and you need to get on board.
Titled Making Spirits Bright, the SWC Holiday concert features music by Joni Mitchell, and Mary Chapin Carpenter.
Expect the sublime (Mozart’s “Laudate Dominum”) to the ridiculously funny (singing Chipmunks).
